Why the Redwood Forest slideshow?

Judy had always loved trees, and in 2008 we spent some time among the California Redwoods. Some of the ingredients in Judy's chemo cocktail were derived from trees (not Redwoods but Yews). We always knew that Judy loved the trees, and the trees got their chance to repay her affection.

Counting down to surgery

After an almost "normal" weekend we've entered the countdown to surgery on Thursday. Our trip to OKC went very well, and Judy enjoyed working the race. She went out on the motorcycle, for the first time with a female driver who was about her size. You should have seen the two of them--they looked great.

This morning it's back to more lab work, and then another full day at MHMR. The e-mails and notes of encouragement keep coming in. On Wednesday we will know for what time the surgery will be scheduled on Thursday.

While in OKC we ran into our old buddy William whose wife is a OB/Gyn doc. He told us that the very first thing that Donna said when William read her the news of Judy's PPC, "If she gets Dr. Phillips, she'll be fine." You can imagine that we loved to hear that!

Saturday night we had dinner with some other friends, Terry and Leann, who is a "butt-and-gut" doctor herself. That wonderful dinner at their home gave us a chance to relax but also to ask lots of questions, especially since Leann's mother is fighting the same battle right now.

We are extremely fortunate to know so many people who are on our side.

Hi Judy!! I just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed meeting you this weekend at the Redman. I was the Race Day Volunteer Coordinator, who gave you a nice little place to take a nap & relax. I'm keeping you in my thoughts & prayers. You are one strong little lady & have NO doubts you will beat the cancer. Stay STRONG!! Gaylene

Well, we are all behind you, and we know that you are in good hands. Life is a consistent set of surprises. The meaning of life seeming to rest some where in our ability to respond to each of them in a different way. I know how you have and will continue to respond. I have had many years to learn your heart and your spirit. That allows me to rest assured. I am with you as you start the next leg of your race.

Judy & Jurgen,

Thinking about you all of the time. We are confident Judy will be fine --- it may be a tough road, but she's gonna make it!

Let us know what we can do to help.

Lots of love, hugs and prayers.
Amy

Hi, Judy!

Bill Kerns forwarded this link to me. I'm sorry to hear you are sick, and I will be looking forward to the news down the road that you have beaten this and kicked the cancer straight into permanent remission! There isn't a doubt in my mind that I will be hearing that news from you.
I passed this along to my wife Judy, and she remembers you well. We will be praying hard for you, friend.

I'm not sure how long it has been since we've seen you, but our kids are pretty big now. Daughter Amy is 17 and a junior at Lubbock High School. Son Chris is 15 and a freshman at LHS. He is 6'5", by the way. They grow up fast.

Best wishes in your battle. I'm sorry you have to fight this fight, but I am glad you are equipped with the kind of inner strength and determination you need to be successful. We will be following your progress. Crush that cancer like

Somehow my last few words were cut off. I was trying to say "Crush that cancer like an annoying insect!"

Hi Judy! Adam told me that he saw you at the store last night and I was so glad that he got your blog address so we can keep up with you. We were so sorry to hear that you are sick and just want you to know that we're thinking and praying for you. I know you are a fighter! Let us know if we can do anything for you...we can at least keep your husband fed so just tell us when we can bring over a meal or two. ;)

Judy, I read your comments in Cathy's e-mail. First, I was sad. Second, I remembered how positive, upbeat and strong you are and I know that you will fight the cancer. There will be days that you won't feel like fighting because it will not be easy but you have to fight it, Judy. We seldom see each other now (you at SRC and me at 10th) but I've never forgotten your mentoring and genuine caring spirit. Maria Salazar - your old case management friend.
