Why the Redwood Forest slideshow?

Judy had always loved trees, and in 2008 we spent some time among the California Redwoods. Some of the ingredients in Judy's chemo cocktail were derived from trees (not Redwoods but Yews). We always knew that Judy loved the trees, and the trees got their chance to repay her affection.

A different Sunday

We have just sent an e-mail to our many friends and acquaintances, letting them know about Wednesday's diagnosis. Jürgen and I are using this strange electronic tool that seems so impersonal because we know that in the weeks and months to come we will not be able to answer every e-mail and phone call immediately or with all the information that we'd like to include.

All this is new to us. Right now we are trying to adjust to the new reality. Nothing has really changed. I will go for a light bike ride with my friends Emily and Susan in a little while, and that will be fun.

The outpouring of love has touched me so much. Thank each of you here on the Blog and all the emails.

I plan to win.

I am not used to being the center of attention and it is so humbling and touching.

Thanks to each of you.

Judy and Jurgen,

I also believe in the power of prayer and will be sending many for you both. I know this is a big challenge but Judy, you are the toughest woman I know and have always been an inspiration to me. Ken and I will do anything we can to help. I love you both, Michelle

Judy, Mom used Benny Phillips and we were very impressed with him. She had to wait a long time in his waiting room for each appointment, but the tradeoff was that he gave her all the time she needed when it was finally her turn to see him. I've been through this with her, so if I can offer any help based on that experience, I'm certainly ready to do that. My cell number is 773-4049. Quakers say that we "hold a person in the light," so I'll be doing that with both of you.

Judy and Jürgen — Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. The two of you have chartered new territory many times before so we are confident that you can meet the challenges and joys of each stage of this race. Remember to wear helmets but don't be afraid to run the stop signs and take the lane when you need to. We will be here to cheer you on and run sag.

Judy - You will be in my prayers and I know that with your determination and your "plan to win" the only result can be that of yet another personal victory.

Always my best to you!

Judy and Jurgen,
Just read about this on TMBRA. Although a blog seems impersonal, you may find out that it can become a lifeline of support. Whenever you need a boost you can go back and read notes sent from friends and family and we have a central place where we can stay informed with what's going on.

I wish I was closer to be able to offer you help and support. Since I'm not, all I have to give you is my thoughts of a strong and speedy recovery.

Judy,

I had colon cancer 10 years ago and my brother had prostrate cancer 14 years ago, and we are both still around, fat and happy. You can beat this thing. Jan and I are with you.

Dear Judy and Jürgen,

as we can only imagine, this must be a very hard time for both of you. We are sure that with the attitude of both of you you will fight this cancer so that it will leave Judy just as fast as it appeared. We wish you strength, persistence, patience and all the support that Judy has always spreaded to other people.

We send you all our love. We are thinking of you. All the best for your appointment tomorrow.
